Most people who book a Cappadocia ATV tour want two things: to actually cover ground in the valleys, and to be back at their hotel in time for dinner or the next activity. This tour does both.
The ride runs 1 or 2 hours through Love Valley, Sword Valley, Mushroom Rock, and Rose Valley — from €20 per person, with hotel pickup included from Göreme, Çavuşin, Uçhisar, and Ürgüp. Sunrise, daytime, and sunset options are available. Whether you’re looking for a quad bike safari or a guided ATV tour, the route and the terrain are the same — I’ve been leading groups through these valleys for 15 years. Below I’ve written exactly what the route covers, what each valley looks like, and how to choose the right timing for your day.
What the Cappadocia ATV Tour Covers
The standard route passes through four distinct areas, each with a different character:
Love Valley opens the ride. The fairy chimneys here — the ones you’ve seen in every photograph of Cappadocia — are volcanic tuff columns formed by differential erosion. Harder caprock sits on top of softer tuff below; the surrounding material eroded away over millions of years and left these columns standing. The ATV track runs along the valley floor, which gives a ground-level perspective you don’t get from any viewpoint.
Mushroom Rock in Çavuşin is the mid-point. The rock formation here shows a different stage of the same erosion process — the capstone is larger, the column underneath narrower. It’s an older formation. Çavuşin itself is a Byzantine-period settlement; the abandoned village above the modern town was carved directly into the tuff cliff face and inhabited until the 1950s.
Sword Valley (Kılıçlar) is the most geologically varied section of the route. The valley name comes from the narrow, blade-like formations along its walls. Byzantine monks carved rock churches into this valley between the 7th and 11th centuries — some still have intact fresco fragments. The ATV track here is the most technically demanding section of the ride.
Rose Valley (Güllüdere) closes the route at sunset or opens it at sunrise. The pink and amber colouration comes from iron oxide in the tuff — the colour is strongest in low-angle light, which is why timing matters. At midday, the valley walls read as pale ochre. At golden hour, they shift into deep rose and copper.

Private tours are available on request. Timing is flexible; availability and pricing during high season are confirmed separately.
How the Tour Works
Tours run as guided groups. Your ATV guide leads from the front — the route, pace, and stops are set. Riders follow in line; independent route changes and high-risk manoeuvres are not permitted. This is not an open rental; it’s a guided excursion through protected valley terrain.
On the day:
- Pickup from your hotel at the confirmed time
- Transfer to the ATV base near Göreme
- Safety briefing and equipment fitting (helmet provided)
- Guided ride — route varies by time option
- Return transfer to your hotel
The 2-hour tour covers all four locations listed above with stops for photographs. The 1-hour tour covers a shorter circuit within the same valley system.
Age, Experience & Physical Requirements
Drivers must be at least 16 years old. No driving licence is required — all ATVs have automatic transmission and are straightforward to operate. A short instruction session runs before every departure.
A second person can ride as a passenger on any ATV at no extra cost. Children between 10 and 15 can join as a passenger with an accompanying adult. Under 10, we’d ask you to skip this one.
No prior ATV or off-road experience is needed. The route is accessible to first-time riders at a relaxed pace. That said, we don’t recommend the tour for people with significant back, neck, or joint injuries, or during pregnancy — the valley terrain is uneven and the ride involves constant low-level vibration.
There’s no formal weight limit on the vehicles. Two adults sharing one ATV should be comfortable up to a combined weight of approximately 180 kg.
What to Wear and Bring
The valleys are dusty. Even in mild weather, fine tuff dust covers everything within the first ten minutes. Practical considerations:
- Closed shoes — sandals are not suitable
- Long trousers or leggings
- A light layer you don’t mind getting dusty
Equipment provided free of charge: helmet, goggles, knee pads, and elbow pads. The goggles are the ski-goggle style — they provide standard eye protection and cover more of the face than sunglasses.
Available to purchase on-site: bandana, for dust protection around the nose and mouth.
Dust masks are no longer provided — operators stopped supplying them after hygiene issues with shared use. If you want proper face coverage beyond a bandana, bring your own. This matters most if you have asthma, allergies, hay fever, or wear contact lenses — the tuff dust is fine-grained and persistent. A fitted dust mask or your own goggles will do more than the on-site options.
One practical note on the shared goggles: they’re cleaned between tours, but if hygiene is a concern for you personally, bringing your own is the cleaner option.
Sunrise, Sunset or Daytime — Which Is Better?
All three work, but they’re different experiences.
Sunset (most popular): Rose Valley’s iron-oxide tuff turns deep copper and rose in the last hour before dark. The valley is quieter than at midday. Dust settles as the air cools. This is the right option if your primary interest is photography or landscape colour.
Sunrise: You’ll have the valleys to yourselves. Hot air balloons are launching during the first 90 minutes after dawn — if you’re doing a 2-hour sunrise ride, the balloon launch is visible overhead for much of the route. Cooler temperatures, low-angle light on the fairy chimneys. A good option if you’ve already done a balloon flight at a different sunrise.
Daytime: Less popular, which means less congestion on the trail. Midday light is flat for photography but visibility is clearer. If heat doesn’t bother you and your schedule doesn’t allow sunrise or sunset timing, daytime works well.
Combining the Cappadocia ATV Tour with a Day Tour
Yes — and it’s one of the more efficient ways to use a full day in Cappadocia.
The 2-hour ATV tour, including hotel pickup and return, takes approximately 3 to 3.5 hours from door to door. A sunrise ATV tour is typically complete by 09:00–09:30. The Cappadocia Red Tour and Green Tour both depart around 10:00.
We organise this combination directly. If you want to book both on the same day, confirm with us at reservation — we coordinate the timing and handle both pickups.
The ATV covers ground-level valley terrain; the day tours go to Göreme Open Air Museum, underground cities, viewpoints, and the wider region. The two formats genuinely complement each other — the ATV gives you the valley floor, the day tour gives you the plateau and the historical sites.
Why Book with Epic Turkey Travel
The ATV route passes through valleys I’ve been walking and leading groups through since 2009. The geological sequence — Love Valley tuff columns, Çavuşin’s Byzantine cliff settlement, the Kılıçlar rock churches in Sword Valley, the iron-oxide colouration of Rose Valley — is not background decoration. It’s what makes this region different from every other ATV track on earth.
We offer direct booking only. No OTA markup, no third-party handling. Questions before you book? Contact us directly via WhatsApp or the booking form.

Mark & Lisa –
Such a great experience riding the ATVs around the valleys. We were a bit nervous at first, but the instructions were clear and we felt very safe. Exploring the landscape this way is completely different than just walking. 5 stars!”
