The Pamukkale balloon flight status above reflects a same-morning SHGM decision for a single flight zone designated LTB2 — a roughly 5-nautical-mile area over the travertines, where Pamukkale balloon flights are authorized one morning at a time.
In Cappadocia, the airspace is split into three sectors, so a marginal wind reading can close one zone while another stays open. Pamukkale has no such fallback: when the wind aloft is over the limit, the whole morning is cancelled. I spent a year on balloon ground crew in Cappadocia, and the pre-dawn call always comes down to wind at the surface and wind aloft — Pamukkale runs on the same SHGM system, with less margin, because there is only one area to clear.

What Should I Do If My Flight Is Cancelled?
Your money is not at risk. When SHGM closes the Pamukkale flight area, every licensed operator either refunds you in full or moves you to the next available morning. You do not pay a cancellation fee, and you do not lose your payment. A weather cancellation is a decision made by the civil aviation authority, not by the company you booked with.

The Morning Itself
SHGM publishes the decision for the Pamukkale area between roughly 04:00 and 05:00 local time. This page follows SHGM throughout that window, so you can check the status yourself from your room instead of waiting for a phone call. Pickup for the Pamukkale flight is early, usually between 04:15 and 05:00 depending on the season, so the decision often arrives while you are already awake.
If SHGM has already closed the area by pickup time, the pickup does not happen — nobody drives you to the launch field to look at the sky. On a borderline morning the final call can still come at the field itself, so occasionally you are driven out, you wait, and you are brought back. That is the exception, not the pattern.

Most people visit Pamukkale as a single overnight stop between Ephesus and Cappadocia, or as a day trip from Izmir or Antalya. This is the real risk, and it is worth being direct about it: if you have only one morning here and that morning is cancelled, there is no second attempt. A refund is not the same as a flight.
If the balloon is important to you, plan two nights in Pamukkale or Karahayıt. One extra night converts a cancelled morning from a lost experience into an inconvenience. Our own record so far shows the Pamukkale area clearing most mornings, but “most” is not “all”, and the cancelled days do not announce themselves in advance.
If You Booked Through Someone Else
Contact the company you paid. We can only reschedule or refund bookings made with us. If an operator refuses a refund or a reschedule after an SHGM cancellation, that is not normal practice in Turkey and you should push back — the cancellation is documented and public, and this page records the outcome for that date with a timestamp.
What To Do With The Rest Of Your Day
A cancelled balloon morning gives you your sunrise back. The travertines open early and the white terraces are at their best in low light, before the tour buses arrive from the coast. The Hierapolis ruins sit directly above them — the theatre and the necropolis take a couple of hours if you walk slowly, and there is almost nobody there at 07:00.
It is not the flight you booked. But an empty travertine terrace at sunrise is not a bad replacement, and most guests who lose the balloon end up with photographs from that morning anyway.
